So I'm writing a research paper for my "Theory of Mass Communications" class... and at this point I plan to write it about comics/graphic novels.
These are the guidelines for the paper:
The objective of the research paper is to structure a critical examination of a media topic from a scholarly point of view. You will be assigned a chapter in our text Media & Culture which will serve as the basis of your research. Read the entire chapter, and focus on a specific aspect of the chapter that allows you to establish a research question. What we are interested in is media’s propensity in affecting our lives and culture. In developing this paper utilize any of the following themes: technological and content convergence, agenda setting, gatekeeping, shared cultural symbols, habitual exposure, and popular culture. This research assignment prompts a critical examination of your research question by utilizing our library’s data base resources in order to secure scholarly sources. Reoccurring exposure to mediated information whether information or entertainment impacts our lives. This project addresses the latter issue and provides individual benefit from the knowledge thereof
And here is my abstract: ( under the cut )
So, I wonder if anyone might like to give me some tips on tightening that abstract up, and maybe focusing it? Reading several of the abstracts that have been submitted for grades already has made me cringe on several occasions, so it's not like it has to be absolutely amazing. ;)

Since my characters are based on real people, I wonder if you might fill out this survey/meme so I can characterize ya'll a bit better. (I still make no guarantees for accuracy, but it might help... a bit. In some ways. Some questions are just there to be questions, though.) ALSO, if you want to be a character, you do not have to fill this out accurate to how you actually are, but how to want to be portrayed.
You don't have to be in my novel to fill it out, though! IF you want to be added, let me know and I'll get you in there somewhere. I think I might cheat and use this as my NaNo too.
0. Is this filled out for you for real, or for you as you want to be in my novel?
1. Do you have a tattoo? Piercings?
2. How old are you, and what's your birthday?
3. Are you single, taken, or "other?"
4. Eat with your hands or utensils?
5. Do you dream at night?
6. Ever seen a corpse?
7. What's your drink of choice? (alcoholic and/or non-)
8. Do you like roller coasters? Thrill rides?
9. What's your philosophy on life and death?
10. Have any nicknames? What are they from?
11. Do you trust the police?
12. Do you wear glasses or contacts? How bad is your eyesight if you do?
13. What color are your eyes?
14. If you could change anything about yourself what would it be?
15. Would you cheat?
16. What do you wear to sleep?
17. What kind of animals do you like? Have as pets?
18. Would you hide evidence for me if I asked you to?
20. Is there anything you avoid doing (ex: smoking, drinking alcohol)?
21. Do you sing in the shower?
22. What's your favorite color?
23. Do you ever talk to yourself? Sing to yourself?
24. Tell me one interesting/odd fact about you?
25. Have you broken any bones?
26. Have you ever done drugs?
27. If you could have any one Pokemon, which one would you want?
28. What kind of music do you like? If you like everything/a lot, what's your favorite genre?
29. What web browser do you use?
30. Anything else you think I should know about you?

Well I certainly haven't updated this in awhile, particular not with some writing, so here are a few scenes from my failed 07JulNo.
Premise: The five of us are in a group called the Streetlight Hunters, who deal with supernatural and alien disturbances across the United States (and parts of Canada). It takes place in the nearby kind-of future and incorporates elements of pretty much every tv show and movie I've ever watched, but mostly Supernatural.
Characters: Most (all, currenly) characters are based on people from
statements. Yes, I have their permission. ;) I say "loosely based on" most places because well, I really don't know anyone well enough to write them with more than say, 30% accuracy. If that. There are more characters, of course, but I haven't used them yet, so they're not on the list yet.
Carley is loosely based on

Colin is loosely based on

Shangy is loosely based on

Hannah is loosely based on
death_ismygift
Jeannie is loosely based on
justaredherring (Me, and yes I call myself Jeannie because I HATE referring to myself as Kendall is stories that I write myself. I don't know why, but it bugs the crap out of me.)

Hmm. Pretty much failed this JulNo (my last word count came in under 9,000 words), but I have an idea for the NaNo coming up in a few months... a line in the newest CSI: Miami book ("Riptide" by Don Cortez, and highly recommended) gave me a bit of inspiration. Serial killer(s) posing as real estate agents.
And since I work in a real estate office... ;)

So, because I'm a bit insane, I guess, I decided to sign up for
julnowrimo.
Now, what am I to write about? I'm thinking something in the CSI and/or NCIS universe again, even if I only got to 10,000 words with that last NaNo. The concept of
powergeneration intrigues me, so I may write it in that universe, or at least including elements from it.
Been posting at the forums a bit, mostly in the word association thread (I had a few of those in my journal - they're really fun).
Some links I've seen hanging around (mostly for my own usage):

The first season on DVD and the other two in avi will be useful, methinks. ;)

Franklin Fight Song

music: Enya -- May it Be
Just for the heck of it, the lyrics to my high school's fight song:
On Franklin, fight on, Franklin,
For our fair red and blue.
Steadfast in our loyalty,
Patriots always true!
We're from Franklin,
And proud of Franklin,
Fair colors always Fly!
Our allegience will always be true
To Franklin High!
Fight! Fight! Fight!
Yeppers. ^__^ Choir always got to sing that one at the Choir/Band/Orchestra fall festival, and at the pep rallys everyone sang it with the cheerleaders doing their cool little movements to it. How cool are we? ;D

That's me and Miss Theresa, my dance teacher. I rather hate pictures of myself where I just stand/sit and smile at the camera, so this isn't a favorite, but it's the best picture I have of the gem pattern on my solo costume.
I just want to say that it took hours to lay out that design, re-do it when the cat knocked it off (twice!) and then glue them on. There are 400+ stones on that dress, if I counted correctly. There's a bit on the back that you can't see... because they're on the back (obviously).
My hair looked like that in the back (at this competition - it changed at every one ^^;). God bless bobby pins.
Just for the heck of it, some pictures of the dance itself. ( here )
Okay, end of the randomness.
