So I'm writing a research paper for my "Theory of Mass Communications" class... and at this point I plan to write it about comics/graphic novels.
These are the guidelines for the paper:
The objective of the research paper is to structure a critical examination of a media topic from a scholarly point of view. You will be assigned a chapter in our text Media & Culture which will serve as the basis of your research. Read the entire chapter, and focus on a specific aspect of the chapter that allows you to establish a research question. What we are interested in is media’s propensity in affecting our lives and culture. In developing this paper utilize any of the following themes: technological and content convergence, agenda setting, gatekeeping, shared cultural symbols, habitual exposure, and popular culture. This research assignment prompts a critical examination of your research question by utilizing our library’s data base resources in order to secure scholarly sources. Reoccurring exposure to mediated information whether information or entertainment impacts our lives. This project addresses the latter issue and provides individual benefit from the knowledge thereof
And here is my abstract: ( under the cut )
So, I wonder if anyone might like to give me some tips on tightening that abstract up, and maybe focusing it? Reading several of the abstracts that have been submitted for grades already has made me cringe on several occasions, so it's not like it has to be absolutely amazing. ;)

Well I certainly haven't updated this in awhile, particular not with some writing, so here are a few scenes from my failed 07JulNo.
Premise: The five of us are in a group called the Streetlight Hunters, who deal with supernatural and alien disturbances across the United States (and parts of Canada). It takes place in the nearby kind-of future and incorporates elements of pretty much every tv show and movie I've ever watched, but mostly Supernatural.
Characters: Most (all, currenly) characters are based on people from
statements. Yes, I have their permission. ;) I say "loosely based on" most places because well, I really don't know anyone well enough to write them with more than say, 30% accuracy. If that. There are more characters, of course, but I haven't used them yet, so they're not on the list yet.
Carley is loosely based on
sugarcane_moon
Colin is loosely based on
deltashade
Shangy is loosely based on
djshangrila
Hannah is loosely based on
death_ismygift
Jeannie is loosely based on
justaredherring (Me, and yes I call myself Jeannie because I HATE referring to myself as Kendall is stories that I write myself. I don't know why, but it bugs the crap out of me.)
( random scene: Cake )
( Random Scene: Talent )

Hmm. Pretty much failed this JulNo (my last word count came in under 9,000 words), but I have an idea for the NaNo coming up in a few months... a line in the newest CSI: Miami book ("Riptide" by Don Cortez, and highly recommended) gave me a bit of inspiration. Serial killer(s) posing as real estate agents.
And since I work in a real estate office... ;)

music: NCIS - Left for Dead
So, because I'm a bit insane, I guess, I decided to sign up for
julnowrimo.
Now, what am I to write about? I'm thinking something in the CSI and/or NCIS universe again, even if I only got to 10,000 words with that last NaNo. The concept of
powergeneration intrigues me, so I may write it in that universe, or at least including elements from it.
Been posting at the forums a bit, mostly in the word association thread (I had a few of those in my journal - they're really fun).
Some links I've seen hanging around (mostly for my own usage):

The first season on DVD and the other two in avi will be useful, methinks. ;)
